They are phrases in which the subject makes another person take charge of doing something, either because they pay them, ask them to do it, convince them or force them. 

Examples:

  • He had his car fixed by the mechanic.
  • She had learn or dictating class by the teacher.
  • He had the shoes repaired by Miguel
  • She had the skirt shortened by Megan
  • She had the house cleaned by Susan
